URD is proud to announce our new Spec-U exhaust system for the 2005-2012 Tacoma V6.  This is the ultimate performance exhaust system for your truck and it is ready for the race track.

The Spec-U system differs greatly from our other exhaust systems and Y pipes.  We took a totally different approach and combined an equal length Y pipe and cat-back exhaust system as one complete assembly.  The system consists of an equal length Y pipe using 2.25″ tubing that transition to a single 3″ exhaust that includes twin mufflers.

The Spec-U system will bolt to the rear of the stock exhaust manifolds front cats, or the URD Spec-U equal length long tube headers, Doug  Thorley long tube headers or the JBA long tube headers.  The system is not compatible with any other Y pipe or cat-back system.

URD put a lot of R&D time into this system to optimize the tube sizing, bend locations, lengths and materials and the result is very impressive.  The Spec-U system enhances power and torque throughout the RPM range and has a completely unique exhaust note.  The exhaust note is more like the purr of a high end European sports car than typical raspy Tacoma V6 sound you have been used to.  It is very quiet during highway cruising and has a very unique exhaust note when accelerating!!

The Spec-U system replaces the stock Y pipe and cat-back.  It is easy to install with no cutting or welding and uses the stock OEM mounting locations and most importantly will properly exit the cut out in the body kit for the XRunner.

Note- This system is marketed as a race track use system and it is not road legal.  Check local laws for modified exhaust restrictions. Does not fit Double Cab Long Bed trucks.

    Just installed this exhaust on my 2008 X-Runner SWB. I’m loving it.

    Previous owner had installed a magnaflow dual in – dual out muffler that was configured in true dual fashion. They had cut the flange and piping just before the rear cats to utilize the O2 bungs from the factory cats. Crappy welding all around to fill in different size piping. Needless to say, I hated how it looked and how loud the thing was. It droned at around 3K. Highway speeds were so loud in the cab, I couldn’t think. My music being at a moderately high volume was drowned out by the exhaust as well.

    Well, goodbye stupid exhaust noise. This exhaust is quiet. I get no drone and feel that I got my low-end torque back to what it should’ve been. Probably more.

    Install wasn’t as straight forward as I thought it would’ve been for a bolt-on kit. No instructions were included to specify any torque specs, but it’s done either way. As one of the other reviews stated, the Y-pipe was different than pictured. It’s a Y’d resonator that meets with the driver and passenger banks’ pipes.

    There’s a V-Band section at the end of the ‘Y’ to meet a mid-pipe that goes into the muffler. This section was tricky and made me think that I received the wrong model exhaust. Finagling with the angles between the mid-pipe and the muffler only got me as close as around 6 inches offset with the hangers attached. This took some strength to get the muffler finally attached to the mid-pipe. The rest of the pipe took some mild wrestling to angle correctly. The hangers after the resonator aren’t so much hanging anymore as they are stretched laterally. Overall, it works and didn’t cause me to get some better fitting pipes made or anything. Hopefully after some heat cycles the exhaust will settle a bit to be more forgiving at a later date.

    Just put the spec u exhaust on a n/a 2006 tacoma. Went from a flow master muffler that was annoying with the drone. This exhaust was easy to install and fit perfectly. The system is extremely quiet love it plus u can feel the difference while driving

    A very good system. Nice and quiet at idle and while cruising, with a nice and unique semi exotic exhaust note while accelerating. The use of 304 ss is nice as it will never rust, making this a true lifetime system. My tip for instillation is to install the exhaust hangers onto the system. Push or tap them on until the end of the hanger rod is flush with the edge of the hanger,(you will push them into their final position when you get the system on the truck). It is harder get the hangers pushed onto the hanger rods of the system than the hanger rods of the truck. A light coating of petroleum jelly on the rods helps.

    They came in today and I am completely happy with the purchase. The y-pipes I got look different than the picture they have. Other than that. I like them. Don’t know if they tweaked the design or what. But happy

    Very nice and great service on your part! After putting some miles on, this exhaust tone is perfect for my tastes and it really does sound exotic with the throttle opened. Has a really nice warble to it. @boniyota
